Experiment to stiffen the vehicle frame horizontally with gussets and stay plates, comparing Phantom and Silver Ghost models.

| existing contd :- Bring this as near the Cross member as convenient clearing brake pedal. gusset secured to frame by angle and bolts through web near the bottom flange thus :- The object of this is to very greatly stiffen the frame in a horizontal plane, as it is feared lack of this stiffness may be the difference between the [scribbled out] Phantom and Silver Ghost, the engine suspension in the former not making use of the engine as a strut as is the case in the Silver Ghost. After testing this on the road (by towing) - (6) Place, at first low down and then at the proper centre of gravity, weight equivalent to the weight of the engine etc. which has been removed (towing again required). (7) Again on the Phantom, fit horizontal stay plates under the front feet and fasten to the frame by angles in the same way as with the gusset plates. existing contd :- Existing engine supporting tubes slightly bent to allow for thickness of stay plate under bolts. In this experiment of course the car runs under its own power. | ||
