x4704 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from HDY.{William Hardy} c. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.27.2.34. Gearbox on Vulture. Examination of this box, which is now dismantled for gear quietening, shows that the 2nd speed teeth have been crashing since the box was last assembled. Would you kindly let me know of any crashing, however slight, that comes to your notice, and if possible give some information about the circumstances. We can see that the clutch may not be free from oil when the 2nd speed is engaged from rest as the outer cone is stationary until the car begins to move, but we doubt that the damage referred to can be accounted for in this way.
