Further endurance running has been carried out on Hall's metal bearings, and we have now completed 100 hours on a set of big ends on the Bentley. These have finished the test in excellent condition. We have run more than 50 hours on a set of main bearings: these have also given satisfaction. We have run at high oil temperatures, finally increasing the inlet to 120°C. and the outlet to 135°C., and no trouble has been experienced. This metal is now running on all our test bed units and one big end bearing has failed after running 10 hours endurance. We have of course occasional failures on big ends whatever material is used, and this result shows that we shall not be immune from such failures with Hall's metal bearings. At present we are not alarmed about it. Generally speaking, the solid bearings are giving astonishingly good results under test bed running conditions.
