MAGNETOS (Contd.) (12) Mr. Swetnam submitted two schemes for overcoming these gear rattles. The Committee discussed the first scheme suggested by them for a split gear wheel connected by springs, and suggested certain modifications concerning the mode of attachment of the springs. Mr. Nadin suggested that the teeth on the driving portion of this wheel should be made twice as wide as the teeth of the controlling portion. The Committee agreed. Mr. Swetnam was of the opinion that this scheme would prove to be noisy in use, but might perhaps overcome the rattles referred to. He suggested the second scheme of a brake acting on the inside of the gear wheel attached to the distributor shaft. The Committee agreed that Mr. Swetnam should modify the split gear wheel scheme as suggested and that we should test same after submission to the Committee before proceeding with the brake scheme. | ||
