RE FERODO LINED FOOT BRAKES SQUEAKING.

With reference to your instruction No.117 concerning the above, I think it only right to point out to you that our experience of these brakes does not agree with the instructions you have given to your fitters.

First I would point out that in every case when we dismantle a brake drum, if the car has done anything like considerable mileage, the whole of the ferodo is more or less glazed, but if we have had a definite case of foot brake squeaking, we have been able to cure it by knocking the rivets under the surface of the ferodo, this showing that the rivets do cause the squeak, and also if we have roughed up the surface of the ferodo, this very quickly has all gone after a few applications of the foot brake.

I send you these observations as I know you do welcome information as regards troubles we come across in the Repair Shop, but I shall be glad to hear further from you on the subject, as hitherto wehave always, when fitting any ferodo brake liners, made sure that the rivets were well below the surface of the ferodo.
