Smith Let me have complete list of plates we have going forward for test Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 32.EX. - PHANTOM III. CLUTCH. The new Clutch plate fitted is very bad for jaggers. It is impossible to get a smooth take up after the Clutch has become hot. When cold it is fairly smooth, but grabs finally. In our opinion, this is due to loss of spring setting of the fabrics. With the thicker fabrics, it will be necessary to increase the off set of the steel plate sections, or in other ways to obtain a more sensitive take up. When changing gears, the grabbing of the Clutch can be felt when let in. We have tried it with the torque reaction dampers made solid, and obtain an improvement of 30% in the jaggering which confirms the above. ---------------- [Signature] H.{Arthur M.
