- 4 - B E N T L E Y. Petrol Pumps off cars which are still under guarantee are to be dealt with as above. When pumps are off cars which are out of guarantee it was agreed that Kingsbury should carry out the repairs. CLUTCHES - PHANTOM III. Long Type Plates. There has up to date only been one failure. The plate has been returned to the Works. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy. is having it checked over. The dimensions are satisfactory. L.A. will arrange to test it out in a chassis. Appears a unique case Possibly grits in clutch WME Overoiling - Phantom III. Oiled up plugs - smoking exhaust. This is experienced on cars which are driven continuously in heavy traffic. Up to the present the remedy has been close fitting valve guides. Certain cars had standard valves fitted in undersize guides. Production cars have standard size holes in the valve guides, and the close clearance is obtained by adjusting the valve stem diameter. The following modification is to be tried in future before the valve gear is disturbed. (See memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}10/SH.11.3.37).- The junction screws, which connect the oil pipe banjos to the tappet oil filter, are to be replaced by screws which have a reduced diameter cross drilling (two .156 diameter reduced to one .078 + .5 diameter.) This modification should prolong the period between the cleanings of the tappet filter, and reduce the oil flow to valve gear. If this proves effective a Depot Sheet will be circulated. The Works are to supply Cricklewood with a quantity of the new junction screws. Valve Gear Self Adjusting Tappets - Phantom III. The diameter of the Hydraulic Plungers has been varied from the original fine clearance which was .001 to .0012, present production is .0015 to .002. A large number of cars were produced with the fine clearance. These should be increased to agree with the latest figure when necessary. | ||
