- 3 - Continued:- (iv) BELTS AND PULLEYS. (a) A discussion was held with Mr. Shilton regarding a programme of tests on the Ferodo test plant, and he agreed to run various types of pulleys for us with a view to investigating noise and wear. (b) Pressed steel pulleys on 11.B.V. are to be changed for machined pulleys as the former appear to promote squeaking of belts. (v) DASH BOARDS. Rig tests are in hand on dash boards with a view to investigating the deflections caused by mounting of heavy items such as heater and wireless set. (vi) PRESSURE COOLING. A resumption of testing on pressure cooling is to be carried out on 8.B.V. as soon as this car becomes available. A cooling analysis of 11.B.V. is then to be made with a view to adapting this car to pressure cooling. Buick relief valve is being sent to us from America. (vii) RADIATORS. A visit was paid to Morris's and a Bentley V fan and tube radiator instructed. This it appears improved low speed cooling and should materially assist our fan problems. Bentley V radiators have also been instructed from Searle's but not as yet to hand. Cooling tests on fixed and variable shutters are being carried out on 1.R.1. the principal conclusion to date being what the car is overcooled. (viii) FANS. A price analysis is being obtained for the Bentley V fan which will then be approached with a view to simplification. A simplified fan has already been instructed for the Ripple and fan tests are in progress on this car to see just how much we can reduce the fan efficiency without seriously impairing the idling. - continued - | ||
