RE LUCAS NEW TYPE BOX.

Referring to the new type Lucas cutout, sample of which was brought to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town by Mr. Hives on his last visit, the anchorage for the operating spring on the moving plate is not very good being effected by screwing the coils of the spring on to the threads of the screw, the latter [handwritten insertion] having an ordinary type of screw thread. Also, apparently the adjustment is obtained by varying the amount of engagement between the spring and the screw.

It has occurred to us that an improvement can be effected at this point by adopting some such design as shewn in the sketch. Mr. Royce considers this desirable.
