-3- though not quite as good as the experimental Watford type EW6A magneto reported upon in our EFC1/AD30.9.29. Further, the silence of operation of this machine is considered to be satisfactory. Regarding the relative cost of the R.O.2. and R.O.1. types of magneto for 20 HP. chassis, the use of the R.O.2. will effect considerable economy. The price of the present R.O.1. is £6. 15. each. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} informs us that it is suggested that the cost of additional tools, jigs etc. to be spread over the first 200 of such modified magnetos, which 200 machines would thus be supplied at an exclusive figure of £6.10. each and subsequent machines at £5.10. each. That is, of course, on the basis of early standardisation. We are however, informed that it will take about 4-5 weeks to complete the necessary tools etc. for R.O.2. production. At the moment however, we do not consider that we have proceeded quite far enough with the experimental testing of R.O.2. magnetos to warrant Messrs. North being instructed to proceed with the necessary tools, jigs and fixtures. EFC. | ||
