The two good magnetos were preliminarily
tested on the bench with very good results, the low
speed sparking of these magnetos, as in the case of the
New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I type EW6A magneto, was very good, and a
test of one magneto on a 20 HP. chassis had shown
itself able to start the engine cold on magneto only
by hand with the ignition lever fully retarded. This is
not very easy with the present standard R.O.1. type.
The leaky gap performance of this R.O.2. magneto is
also very good.

As to whether this new magneto will cause
battery ignition distributor spark points to be unduly
burnt away, we are preparing a combination of magneto and
battery ignition distributor for bench test to observe
this effect. One of the R.O.2. magnetos is being run
on one of the new 20 HP. chassis (25 HP. ) which is run
on magneto only for the purpose, further to test this
point and also the general running over a long mileage.

The weight of the R.O.2. magneto is 7¾ lbs. as
compared with 7½ lbs of the R.O.1. type.

The range of these magnetos is 60°, and the contact
breaker timing is, as in the case of the Phantom magnetos,
in accordance with our recommended timing for rotating
armature type magnetos.

The short circuit primary ampere speed
characteristic shows a good shape, considerably better
than the present standard Phantom Watford E.W.6.
