For the attention of Mr. Howlett. Re the attached letter from Mr. Wilson, which mentions that his opinion of the present form of application may not pass the Examiners as in the first instance they may fail to find any real step for invention, and secondly Diesel Engine Builders have used this type of piston for many years, both of these points are quite true, and in reading the actual specification, it appears to have been very poorly worded. It neither effectively covers what is intended, nor in the covering which has been carried out is the wording such as would convey a definite opinion of what the patent is referring to. My own opinion is that there is ample material to form a very sound patent, providing it is limited to an application in respect of internal combustion engines, other than compression ignition, and this should have been worded in the first paragraph of the provisional specification. I do not wish to go through the patent, paragraph by paragraph at this stage as I propose taking this provisional specification to Walford & Hardman Brown at Coventry on Tuesday next to discuss the matter fully with Mr. Hardman Brown, but there are several points which can, with advantage, be mentioned at this stage, as I understand that you would like to send a copy to Mr. Robotham, and he may be able to form some decision regarding the | ||
