X.3461a Re Front Shock Absorber Ball Ends.

Referring to your EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/F27120 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG28120, it is important to observe that in this case we have had almost unusual success with the device which you have found to be unsatisfactory on test. For example our tests include no less than 150 hours on the Bumping Rig, and this, from our experience, is a test which will cause to fail most items which are quite satisfactory on the road. The point to which I wish particularly to draw your attention is the importance of not only bringing these matters to our notice but also actually demonstrating the faulty pieces. It is evident that in this case, in the pieces with which you have had to deal there is some difference from the pieces which we have endeavoured to prove in the Experimental Dept., and until we ascertain what these differences are we cannot be sure of proceeding by alteration on the right line.

When one of your chassis comes back and it is reported to you that a part has failed, or is not functioning properly, it should be brought to the notice of Mr. Hives, Mr. Day or to my notice before the part is touched or interfered with. This may be difficult, but I am sure it would be worth while and I believe in many cases you do so. I shall be glad to discuss this general question with you any time.

Will Mr. Hives and Mr. Day please consider these two cases and let me have their views on the trouble.
