Winch Reduction Gear.

The most highly stressed gear of those quoted on PL.776 is the 25 tooth pinion. This has a surface loading of 3,550 lb/in.in. and a Lewis root stress of 3,700 lb/sq.in., based on .12 input H.P. at 4000 r.p.m.

Those stresses are low by automobile standards, and the toughened unground gears suggested should prove satisfactory for the intermittent duty required.
