We attach to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH's. copy the original of PL.788 Drum for Wire cable. The above scheme shews the cable drum for the Launching Gear, it is proposed to make two sizes of drums for test purposes one being 10.000 in dia. and the other 12.000 dia., both drums will take 4.500 ft. of .250 dia. cable. It is shewn mounted on the subframe by cast steel bearing brackets, and has a deep groove ball bearing on the driven side for location, and a roller bearing at the other. The serrated drive and the bearing brackets are designed to enable the drum to be easily removed by undoing 4 bolts attaching the bearing bracket to the subframe, and moving the complete drum and bearing brackets towards the centre of the trailer approx. 3.000 and then raising clear. It is intended to lubricate the Bearing by a Luvax Bijur system, particulars of which will follow later. We are also designing a guard to fit round the drum, which will be attached to the bearing brackets. This scheme supercedes the original.
