R.R. 493A (50m) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -3- Expl. No. REF:Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG26.5.25. modified springs to the oil relief valve. We expect cars fitted up in this way, under normal conditions of running, to use no more oil than the 40/50 HP. (17) The cars which were tried and approved by the Administration had the same accelerator pedal movement as now on production. No objection to this was raised. We agree the travel is more than on the 40/50. We have taken this matter up with W.W. No modification is contemplated to the design at the moment. (18) We think the protection adequate for ordinary conditions. (19) We know no reason why the earth connection on the 'V' series should be any different to the earth connection which is used on the 20 HP. (20) This does not appear to be a problem connected with 'V' series, but it is a matter of general policy. (21) On the Experimental cars we get the full range on the shutters with the hand control. We consider the shutters should work throughout the full range. There is no modification to the design either to increase the range of the hand control or to avoid the sensitive setting. We do not agree that it is necessary to fidget with the hand control. (22) The marking of the oil level indicator follows the practice of the 20 HP. It appears to be a matter of individual taste, which marking is preferred. The present marking was on all the cars approved by the Administration. (23) We consider from experience of running the cars in France on very bad roads, the engine is reasonably protected from dirt. We expect to make slight improvements. We do not consider that they should necessarily be retrospective. (24) We have not experienced any more than the usual difficulty in opening and closing the bonnets. We have not noticed that the 'Phantom' is any more difficult than the 40/50 HP. No alteration in design is contemplated. ----------------- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
