To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to Mor. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 5 P-O Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}19/KW.15.11.34. This is to confirm that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will be at Conduit Street with 21-G-IV at 11.30 to-morrow morning, the 16th inst. One modification which we omitted from our specification was an alteration to the servo to improve its efficiency. This modification was incorporated in view of certain complaints that too much pedal pressure was required on the 20/25. The 20/25 has a 15% higher gear ratio than the Marles as fitted to 21-G-IV. We should like you to observe the clutch on this car. This is much more durable than the present clutch, the difficulty so far having been to make it sufficiently smooth on the take up. As however there are many more complaints of slipping clutches than of jaggering clutches, we believe that the compromise as fitted to 21-G-IV should be proceeded with. As almost all the clutch troubles occur in London we would recommend that 6 sets of parts be put in hand and fitted to Trials cars. The clutch has already previously done 10,000 miles on 4-E-IV and 21-G-IV. Ha/Rs.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} | ||
