CONTINUATION SHEET NO. 1. FROM SHELL-MEX AND B.P. LIMITED.

TO W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce Ltd.

DATE 7th October 1937.

Although no publicity has been given to the fact you may be aware that some of the Oil Companies, including ourselves, have carried out combined road tests this Summer, in conjunction with the Main Co-operative Fuel Research Committee in the United States, in order to obtain better correlation between C.F.R. Engine Octane Ratings and actual Road Ratings of fuels. No official pronouncement will be made until the deliberations which are going on in the U.S.A. are completed, but if, in the meantime, I can give you any private information on what resulted from road tests of some 32 different cars and about a dozen of the fuels sold today in this country I will be happy to do so.

Yours sincerely,

[Signature]

PS. I note that your letter is dated September 24th although the envelope bears a Derby postmark dated October 6th.
