1378 To: Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BENTLEY PUBLICITY. We attach an article written by Pomeroy in this week's Motor on the Bentley V and the Corniche, correcting some of the statements he made regarding the maximum speed in his previous article. Will you please return it for our files unless you particularly wish to use it. We have arranged with Pomeroy that in about a month, he will give us a write-up dealing with the Corniche which will include a photograph of the wind tunnel model and various other details as to how the car was evolved. You may or may not have noticed various contributions to the correspondence columns of the Motor and the Autocar referring to Hall's Bentley. Typical examples are those in the Autocar of December 6th. under the names of "Worth" and "Rolyat" and in other issues under the names of "Buxton" "Tourist Trophy" and "John P. Bennett" referring to the same subject. As a result of these letters, Mr. Geoffrey Smith is going to arrange for an article to be written about Hall's car. He is sending Montague Tombs who did the write-up in the Experimental Department to Derby and we will give him the necessary information. We have seen the proof of the article which Mr. Boddy is writing for Motor Sport. It is quite good, but unfortunately referred to a maximum speed on the trials car of 83 m.p.h. We have asked him to correct this figure, but do not know whether he will do so. We have had the trials car at Derby and found the greatest difficulty in getting it to give a true road speed of 90 m.p.h. In other words, it is at least 5.m.p.h. slower than Lappin's and other experimental B.V's. We are investigating the cause of this lack of maximum speed, but are being hampered by the weather conditions. It should not, of course, ever have been submitted for a press run in this condition. We are still waiting to give Pomeroy a true demonstration of maximum speed, but in the meantime, he has been good enough to take us at our word. Should there be any good photographs of Hall's car in the Tourist races in the Conduit Street files, I would be glad if you will let me have them so that I can submit them to Mr. Montague Tombs for publication.
