Herewith are FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}82 and FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}85, Gears, Shafts, Bearings and Synchromesh gear, for the new Gear Box, revised as a result of eliminating the possibility of using it on Phan.111. Will TWD.{T. W. D???Aeith} begin to scheme out the casing around it, so that the pattern may be set going. There is a question of the finish of the 1st. gear pinion teeth, which will have to be settled as soon as possible. As illustrated on FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}82, the clearance between the second speed pinion and the grinding wheel is not sufficient for skimming up the latter. It is suggested that the skimming attachment on the grinding machine might be modified and this will be taken up with the makers. The alternative, as the box is now designed, is the use of an unground 1st. speed pinion. Modification to the design to enable the pinion to be ground would be fairly extensive, and we think this point should be settled quickly. Detailing of the parts shewn on these drawings can be done directly from the FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} schemes. Would RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} please give us an idea of the cost saving over the present Wraith Box. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
