X3730 R.{Sir Henry Royce} Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, France. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} HSG/L09.3.32. GOSHAWK 11. Owing to delay at Hoopers, we anticipate that it will now be Tuesday or Wednesday the 14th. and 15th.inst. before I can cross over with the car. The final finishing-off the chassis and body has taken longer than we anticipated. It is not that we have had any particular troubles; it is mainly due to the fact that we are trying to get the car as complete as possible. The car will now be fitted with wire wheels. We are all very pleased with the complete RR. Electrical Equipment. We have had E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} with us on the engine vibration trouble. So far, we have only obtained negative results. We have tried stiffening the crankchamber by means of flat plates bolted with reamed bolts between the top and bottom halves. We have proved no advantage with this. We have also machined a crankshaft identical to Goshawk 1. This did not appear to be any advantage. We are now fixing Goshawk 1. engine on the bed and intend to drive it in the same manner as we have been driving Goshawk 11. engines. We are very anxious to prove that Goshawk 1. is very free from this vibration. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} has also instructed a stiffer crankshaft to be made. We have tried the stronge valve springs. These did not give us any material benefit. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
