Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. F.{Mr Friese} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Hardy. We acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 23rd instant, sent for the attention of Commdr. Matravers, and would advise you that the experimental Steering gear is complete, and has been ready for despatch since last week-end. We, however, have held this back, pending receipt of a reply to our letter of the 20th March, regarding the Drop Arm which you sent for this gear, and in that letter we pointed out that the width of the big end boss is only approximately 1", whereas the Drop Arm for this experimental gear should finish 1.3/16" when machined. We also asked for a drawing of your Drop Arm, indicating the direction of the taper. We 'phoned through to your office this afternoon and in the absence of Mr. Hardy, passed on the information to one of his assistants so that you can expedite the information we require regarding the Drop Arm. We propose to hold the Steering gear until we have the information for machining the Drop Arm in view of the fact that the Rocker Shaft taper, being 1.3/16", is in between our standards, and we should prefer to have the steering gear available when the Drop Arm is serrated. - 1 - | ||
