K/W. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Pk/KC/DPB/19.4.37. PETROL PUMPS. I thank you for your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}1/R.14.4.37. Regarding S.U. and their query that pumps sent back from K have been interfered with, I have been thoroughly into this matter and give below the report to me from the carburettor Section. "Regarding S.U's query that petrol pumps have "obviously been interfered with and their statement: "'The erection bolts are being taken out, which "'means the dismantling of the unit' THIS IS NOT THE "CASE. The erection bolts are cut off and units are "not dismantled. These bolts have to be removed "when carrying out the recent pump fixing modification". From the above you will see that K do not dismantle units. As a matter of fact I believe the only unit dismantled in recent times was a case when you first came to K where an urgent job had to be carried out to a car where the removal of the dash insulation in the time allowed would have made the job an impossibility. This is the only case that I can remember and I believe it was on your instructions that we ceased doing this. There is this possibility - that the pumps if obviously dismantled, are pumps that have been sent in by Chauffeurs who have been stranded on the road. I wonder whether it is possible for the S.U. Company to let you have any clue as to the series so that we could trace back on this assumption. However, you can rest assured that we at K have not(and do not)dismantled units. BENTLEY DRIVING DOG KNOCK. The paragraph dealing with this dog knock has been circularised to the Departments concerned and a Dunlop hub will be returned to you in due course for examination. Pk/KC.
