Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}19/KW. 8th October, 1935. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Railton, Esq., Messrs. Thomson & Taylor, (Brooklands) Ltd., Brooklands Track, Byfleet, Surrey. Dear Railton, I was talking to Marker the other night and he mentioned a decelerating control fitted to the Railton. I am not quite sure what this device is, as we have sold our Terraplane. I presume it is something to cushion the effect of changeover from driving to over-run and thus remove some of the unpleasant sensations on a car having powerful acceleration. I shall be very much obliged to you if you could tell me anything about it. By-the-way, do you find that this control reduces chunking in the drive; i.e. the audible evidence of unavoidable slack in the transmission ? Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
