S.S. EXHAUST VALVE SEATINGS.
--------------------------

We are rather concerned by the condition of the exhaust valve seatings on the S.S. cars. Although these should be identical to those used on the F.2.B. series, we appear to be having more trouble with the valves and seatings.

You will note that in HL.11/EA.16.7.29., it is suggested that the hardness of the material used for the seatings is lower [REDACTED] now than it used to be and this is probably the cause of our trouble.

We think it is necessary that we should get to the bottom of it and recommend that you should instruct certain engines to be built with harder aluminium bronze.
