LOV{Mr Lovesey} YNG E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Esq., Experimental Dept., Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr. Hives, Further to my telephone conversation with you on Saturday I would inform you that I have been in touch with the Air Ministry and they tell me the Octane Numbers of the fuels will be 77 and 87 respectively. It is not their intention to set a top limit but only to specify minimum requirements. They also state that when instructions are given to Engine Makers with regard to type tests the minimum Octane Number as per the specification will be obligatory. As I notified your Purchasing Department on Saturday, arrangements were made then for despatch to-day of the 2 x 500-gln. lots in steel barrels which you asked for. We understand from the Air Ministry that the specifications will be issued about the end of this week. Yours sincerely [Signature] Manager. Technical Department. | ||
