Manually Operated Mounting for Future
Gun in Particular 2nd. 2S.

We are not sure, but we believe that the 2nd. 2S guns are intended for ground defence.

As far as we can see, therefore, conditions of use for the ground defence gun are almost identical with those for the Naval gun.

We would like to get the following points cleared up :-

(1) Balance Springs in Mounting.

We shall have to know exactly what goes on the head and how much of this weight it is desired to cancel by means of the balance springs. Allied to this is the question of whether on our replacement mounting we should provide for a hole through the centre, to allow the power operation of the gun.

(2) Temporary Static Mounting.

We shall wish to obtain the Naval Authorities reaction to a non-elevated mounting as a temporary expedient.

P.S. (3) R.R. Mounting.

What would be the reaction to a Horizontal handwheel of large diameter, concentric with the stand for elevating the trunnion head?
