re 40 m.m. Naval Gun type BD.{Mr Berend} Final Armrest
1st. 25 guns.

We attach to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH's. copy of this memo. the original of QPL.116 showing our final design for the armrest for the type BD.{Mr Berend} gun which will be used for the 1st. 25 weapons. We have followed closely the design tested on the Whale Island gun in order to take no risks and have avoided the need for any dies or tools of a serious nature.

This armrest will be used until we can obtain dies, when a design using sheet metal pressings, which is already under consideration, will be substituted.

The diameter of the rest has been increased as requested by Cdr{W. J. Chandler - Chief Clerk}: Young, and we show a covering of Sorbo-rubber with an outer layer of sheet rubber after the style of the sorbo ball.

We suggest Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} should take up immediately the rubber covering for this armrest with the Rubber Experts.

Care has been taken to make it possible to remove the armrest as a unit.
