X/20 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from CJ. re Tyres. CJS/E25/6/24 Mr.Thaw, an American, who owns two or three of our cars and is a great admirer of them, is interested in the Mason Safety First Cord Tyre, which is made in America. He has been told by our people that we prefer to use English made goods. At the same time his claims founded on his own experience as to the superiority of the Mason tyre over any other make of tyre are so great that I think we ought to try them. [handwritten annotation: corresponding] He says that they weigh 50% more than the Dunlop. This may be an advantage so far as material is concerned but would it be a disadvantage so far as the performance of the car is concerned? He runs his tyres blown to 35 on the back tyres and 40 on the front and says that under these conditions they are the most perfect non-skid tyres which can be found and that they have as much resiliency as the balloon tyre and have not the danger of the balloon tyre in the event of the latter suddenly collapsing. Would the weight be considered such a disadvantage as to put these tyres outside the realms of consideration? CJ. | ||
