AUTOVAC TESTS.

Tests to show that the effect of restriction in the petrol line from tank to autovac is more apparent when a small amount of petrol is being lifted than when the flow is comparatively large.

(1) Petrol lifted through 31 15/16". Engine r.p.m. 1500. Full throttle. Induction pipe depression 1.9" Hg.

| Condition of test. | Petrol delivery. |
|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|-------------------------|-------------------|
| | Time for 1 pt. secs. | Flow. pts/hr. |
| Petrol sucked through a plain pipe 72" long. | 69.7 | 51.7 |
| Original new type filter added to plain pipe, holes A.{Mr Adams} .250" dia. Hole B. .3125" dia. | 77.4 | 46.6 |
| New type filter with all holes opened out to .3125" dia. | 73.6 | 48.9 |

(2) As (1) but throttle opening to give 7.5" Hg. Induction pipe depression.

| Petrol sucked through a plain pipe 72" long. | 38 | 94.9 |
|------------------------------------------------------------------------------|------|------|
| New type filter added to pipe. Holes A.{Mr Adams} .250" dia. Holes B. .3125" dia. | 40.1 | 89.8 |
| New type filter added to pipe but all holes opened to .3125" dia. | 38.8 | 92.9 |
