(TOPKEN & CO) GROSSBERREN STRASSE, 128. DEPT. REF. FJF:DHL YOUR REF. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/Ld. March 16th, 1926 Messrs Rolls Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, DERBY. For the attention of Experimental Dept. Dear Sirs: Experimental Brake Lining. We duly received your letter of the 13th instant. May we say that we very much regret the delay that has occurred in supplying the experimental linings; we have not been in any way neglectful of your requirements, but the process of oil impregnation is slow and we thought it advisable to test carefully in order not to overdo the impregnation, for while you advise that a low coefficient can be overcome by the pressure augment from your servo motor, we found that high temperature of the lining produced a very low value and thought it advisable to modify the amount of lubricant rather than put you to what may have been unnecessary trouble. We expect to deliver this week, sample sets in three varieties for each of your 20 and 40 HP chassis. Referring to Colan oil and notes thereon in the Motor Press, a copy of which Mr Hives sent us some weeks back, it may interest Mr Hives to know that we have not yet succeeded in obtaining Colan oil. It would seem that it is not known to any chemist, and although we have received samples from three sources, each of them has proved to be first pressing of castor oil; in each case the price charged was just double that of castor oil Yours faithfully, FERODO LIMITED Chief Engineer | ||
