c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY5/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 1. 7. 25.

NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I CHASSIS.
-------------------

Referring to BJ3/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 18.6.25. and BJ3/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 13.6.25. I regret that I had not replied, but the essential problem at the Works at the moment is gear quietening, and I have been spending my whole time on this, with the object of trying to help the Works. I felt it was far more important to concentrate what time I could spare on the gear quietening question rather than squander it over a number of issues.

In view, however of your second memo, I would like to make the following comments:-

With regard to finish, that is, Items 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12, improvement can be arranged for. I will bring this matter to the attention of the Works.

With reference to the remaining items, the points are as follows:-

2. We cannot alter this without obtaining R's consent. He particularly called for an aluminium cover to avoid weight, and to produce in the casting the words "Rolls Royce".

3. This again is a design question which R . should settle.

4. We can give you a black finish right through with the exception of the coil. The facts of the case are of course, wrong precisely as tabulated.

a.{Mr Adams} Bakelite Parts are practically all Chocolate Brown.
b. Black material is Vulcanite.
c. The Brown Coil Case is Stabilite.

We can make the Bakelite Parts black if this is preferred. We have, however, been under the impression all along that the chocolate brown finish was preferred where we had used it. In my opinion it is certainly a better looking finish, and improves the chassis. If preferred in black, there is no reason why we should not make it black, except remembering that we have to scrap a certain amount of material to arrive at this end.
