To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from BJ. Copy to.... Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8770 "New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I" Chassis. BJ3/H30.6.25. With reference to BJ3/H18.6.25 with regard to certain points on the "New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I" chassis which were not approved of in London, please send to us a report with regard to what is being done concerning each item, and now soon it is expected they can be altered. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} mentioned that pressings and castings are necessarily cheaper-looking than parts which are machined. We must, however, appreciate that cheap-looking parts, which might be acceptable on a cheap American car, would not be acceptable on a Rolls-Royce costing £3,000, and we must retain our dignity and refinement as compared with other cars. Please send us a sample of the petrol filler cap which it is intended to use on the "New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I". We consider these matters are of urgent importance as we wish to prevent the continued manufacture of parts which look cheap and unsuitable for Rolls-Royce cars. B.J. | ||
