1280 March 2nd.1938 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/AP. The British Tyre & Rubber Co.Ltd., BURTON-ON-TRENT. For the attention of Mr.Skellon. Dear Sirs, You may recollect sending us some sample Radiator Filler cap washers in Duprene to our drg. EXS.182. The primary requisites of these washers are freedom from sticking to metal sealing and durability. We have tested them on cars in service for a short period and have experienced no trouble with sticking. We have, however, boiled one of these washers in 30% ethylene glycol solution for 70 hours and are returning it herewith. It will be noted that it has commenced to perish and disintegrate. Our Laboratory, who tested this washer, consider this a poor standard of durability, and say that the washer should easily withstand such a test. Will you, therefore, please let us have your remarks on this and let us know whether you can submit any improved washers. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. (Experimental Dept.) | ||
