Engine work and a subsequent road test for oil consumption on Chassis B.I.CW for Mr. Favier.

Fitted a set of Hall's metal main bearings, leaving a clearance of .0025" to .003" clearance on diameter. Owing to the ovalisation and wear of the crankshaft as per measurements given to you in our memo Sr/VA7/ET. 4.5.36, we were not able to leave a definite clearance of .003". 2. Reduced the liners of the lead bronze bushes by .0005", so as to leave a clearance of .003". 3. Rebored the cylinders to 3.28075", fitted a set of .010 o/s aerolite pistons leaving a clearance of .00325" between the pistons and cylinder bore. 4. Fitted a set of friction liners to the slipper flywheel as the original ones were very badly frayed. 5. Modified the housing of the cam balancing device so as to obtain better lubrication of the pins, rollers, etc. of the tappet mechanism. 6. Reduced the end play of the camshaft to .004". 7. Fitted a washer .020" to the central bush of the front bearer arm of the engine suspension, to take up end play. 8. Trimmed up all the teeth of the toothed ring of the flywheel. 9. Fitted 6 new EB.106 oil pipes for bearings. One pipe was found to be cracked near the swaged end and the remaining five were considered not quite safe for further service. OIL CONSUMPTION - FIRST ROAD TEST During the first road test of 104 Kms. the engine consumed a little under 1/3 of a litre per 100 Kms. The car was run at an average speed of about 75 Kms.p.h. The maximum speed reached was 110 Kms.p.h. The car has now covered 600 Kms. in the customer's hands and the oil consumption is improving.
