YOUR REFERENCE Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}/5.MA. 1029 MARTINDALE November 2nd 1936. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. File Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 27th ult. on the subject of Aluminium Brake Drums, and the conversation that Mr. Martindale had with Mr. Evans at the Olympia Motor Show. The drums in question which we produced in R.R.53 were given the heat-treatment specified in data sheet No.17, as mentioned by you, and although every care was taken to see that this treatment was very accurately carried out, the results were far from satisfactory. It was not until we had made numerous efforts to get satisfactory results with R.R.53 that we changed to R.R.50 Alloy. Yours faithfully, FOR THE BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO LTD.
