DUNLOP RIM & WHEEL CO., LTD. WITH WHICH IS ASSOCIATED W. GOODYEAR & SONS LTD., (DUDLEY) CONTRACTORS TO THE ADMIRALTY, WAR OFFICE, AIR MINISTRY AND COLONIAL AND FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "SOUND, COVENTRY" TELEPHONE: COVENTRY 8633 (5 LINES) (PRIVATE BRANCH EXCHANGE) FOLESHILL, COVENTRY. YOUR REF. OUR REF. GES/PBC/MJ.399. 14th January, 1939. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. For the attention of Mr. Grylls. Dear Sirs, We enclose herewith copy of our drawing CDS.1551, showing the Dunlop 4.50-16 type 72R Wire Wheel incorporating the latest pattern shell with 30° front cone angle. With the exception of the increased shell length, this wheel has the same track line and general characteristics of that shown on your drawing GB.3733. On this drawing, we have included a nominal dimension for the distance between the front edge of the nut and the rim bead, which should enable you to proceed with your covering disc design. In order to preserve this dimension within close limits, particular attention will be given in manufacture to the location of the front bead with respect to the front end of the shell. This is contrary to our usual practice where the rim is located with reference to the inner flange of the shell. A sample set of five experimental wheels will be put in hand as soon as supplies of the modified shell are available. Meanwhile, we should be glad if you would have the enclosed drawing checked over and confirm if you are in agreement therewith. Yours faithfully, FOR THE DUNLOP RIM & WHEEL CO. LTD. (H.W.S. Thorpe) Technical Manager. Encl: CDS.1551. | ||
