Dear Mr. Armstrong,

Thank you for your letter of the 23rd.

The squeak from the damper having the spring loaded valves occurs only on the rebound stroke.

We find there is a certain amount of knocking from the damper when the oil gets warm. This appears to be chiefly from the side float of the connecting rods. They take up the opposite clearance on reversal of the stroke.

We are trying to rig up a method for taking indicator diagrams of the complete damper. If this is successful it should be very useful.
