For the attention of Mr.Bennion Brown. Dear Sir, We thank you for your letter of the 23rd. March and have not replied as we were expecting a further letter from you regarding your findings on the inspection of the seams on a number of filters, but as there are, however, several other points we should like to discuss, we are writing you again. It would be of great interest to us to know exactly the posision of the failure in the filter we returned. The second one is now to hand and we enclose a drawing on which has been marked the position of the failure and the supporting strap we use. In all fairness to yourselves we consider that the second failure is partly due to our saddle clip which is bedding locally at the ends (marked by arrows) and that there has been fidgeting in the proximity of the failure. In order to obtain a good bedding on your filter cylinder we propose to line the saddle clip with approximately .100 thickness of felt as a trial, but using the outside strap without lining as existing. The risk of this is that the greater movement of the filter may work harden and break the connection pipes. Another alternative arrangement we are going to try, is to get further away from the seam joint with our clip, we mention these as you will, no doubt, have had experiences of the successful | ||
