| 1381. RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /LS.E/T.26.6.39. Notes of Meeting held Monday June 26th, to discuss Chassis Costs. Present:- Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC. {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} JRD Les. {Ivan A. Leslie} Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /LS. JRD. said that he hopes to have the cost analysis of the Bentley V front suspension ready for next week. The Analysis will be divided into three groups, i.e.:- A. {Mr Adams} using present equipment, B. using special equipment, C. the comparative Wraith costs. JRD. hopes to have the complete car analysis in a month's time. B.V Crank. Memo reference Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2/R17.6.39 was referred to and there was considerable discussion on the question of cheapening B.V crank as proposed therein. In view of the time and money involved in making new dies, and the fact that all available outside die capacity was required for Aero Work, it was decided that we should not immediately proceed with the proposal to adopt integral balance weights. We should however, investigate the possibility of using existing forgings, but with the following cheapening modifications:- 1. Carbon steel. 2. Delete profile milling of webs. 3. Fit disc type oilers. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} said that Talbot was investigating the possibility of heat treating the shaft in the finished condition except for final grinding. | ||
