re 20/25 HP. Carburetter Flooding.

It has now been clearly demonstrated at the Works that the so called full bore flooding from the drainpipe can occur with dirt under the needle resting on its seating.

After having the further evidence that your own car was not fitted with the rubber mounting we at once instructed a small filter to go on the end of the flexible pipe where it is fitted to the floatchamber, as it appeared fairly obvious to us that the flexible pipe was the cause of this trouble. We issued this filter - LeC.4509 on 31.5.35, and the details were issued 8.6.35 so that we should soon have some of these available.

It is conceivable that particles of the type found to cause the flooding at the Works might be held up in the internal convolutions of the flexible pipe for a long long time before coming adrift and find their way up into the small well surrounding the needle seat, such as was demonstrated experimentally.

We are making a small modification to the drillings from the space surrounding the needle seat so that there will be no well in future.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
