SMITH ELECTRIC PETROL GAUGES. In connection with the failures that have been recently experienced on production with these petrol gauges, we have now received from Messrs Smiths, two instrument meter coils which have been wound with Messrs Connoley's enamel wire, as per our recommendation, and impregnated with a grade of wax called "Carnauba" manufactured by Messrs Symons & Co. This wax is a natural wax having a melting point at 84°C. This method of impregnating the coil was also suggested by ourselves in preference to using bakelite varnish, which varnish we have from past experience found to have deleterious effects on the wire enamel. We propose, therefore, to test these coils, and will report in due course. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
