7. Ex.27955 Spring Pad rep. Fu.1030 and Ex.27956/7 Levers rep. FH.10/1/2 Levers pegged and welded. The pegging and welding failed on both levers after 4300 miles. New parts were fitted and run 2000 miles without failures. An alternative made in one piece has been produced and fitted for further test. Woodhead road springs. Oil leaks occured from the rear eye of the near side spring. No other trouble was experienced, but the bedding of the leaves was open to question. Steering Column and Box LOP.FH.927 E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} type. Steering column shake was experienced, until the engine movements were controlled by torque reaction rubbers mounted low down, which appeared to effect a 90% cure of the trouble. No failures occurred in the steering, but the crankcase fouled the nut on the inner end of the rocker shaft which holds the bijur pipe. This is receiving attention. Side Steering Tube RR.Sch.338/9 RR.339 mod. to near joint. The rear joint was free from knocks and the general handling of the car indicates that the movement and load were correct. Floorboards and Fittings LOP.FH.1195. It was necessary at the start to increase the height of the domes in the central aluminium board to give sufficient clearance for the gear box. The wooden boards were satisfactory. | ||
