Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 2nd December, 1937. The Midland Motor Cylinder Co.,Ltd., Birmid Works, Smethwick, BIRMINGHAM. Your Ref: AEP/LS. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of the 1st December. The price of 8/9d which you quote for this camshaft is not sufficiently attractive for us to start a series of experiments on the new material, particularly in view of the fact that our production on this engine unit is very small. We feel, however, that judging from figures we have seen in the States, you should be able to attract us on casting figures for larger quantities. We, therefore, enclose a camshaft drawing for our 4 1/4-litre engine, and in connection with this shaft we can talk about quantities of 5,000 spread over 2/3 years. Obviously if your percentage scrap is likely to be high the price cannot be very attractive but we should like a quotation to enable us to determine whether the matter is worth pursuing. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
