Continental Over-size Tyres.

X. 917.

There are two alternatives in tyres for heavy cars.

1. Twin wheel on rear.
2. Larger diameter of tyre (not wheel) all round.

I do not think the next diameter of wheel, 950, would make any real difference. It not only lifts the car up and makes it look ugly, but increases the risk of several troubles by increasing the movements which cause stresses in some parts and also increases the stresses in other parts directly.

The twin tyres are most frequently used, but have the disadvantage of considerably more weight, and the tyres and wheels are not interchangeable all round, but this appears to be the only thing that we are able to recommend.

I should have preferred the next size larger tyre, (even slightly decreasing the steering lock), but the trouble in getting them appears to be too great.

Please let the Works experiment with one of their heavy cars, and the Buying Dept. confirm this conclusion.
