COIL No.4164 EX REPAIR CHASSIS.

Herewith we return to you the core of coil No.4164 ex repair chassis, and the following are my assistant's remarks :-

"We have now examined this coil and found the fault to be due to discontinuity of the secondary winding. This was confirmed by unwinding the coil which revealed the fact that the primary to secondary connection had broken and considerable burning in the vicinity of the break had occurred.

The coil core, etc. is handed to you herewith for return to Mr. Gamble so that he can re-wind this coil. The other two coils are being retained for experimental investigation."

Owing to the burning, it was not evident just why this should have failed in the first instance. Apparently the only explanation would be the presence of some corrosive substance other than the straight-forward insulation.

There was on this coil no sign of charring on the primary winding.
