I note that the general conclusions arising from the information you give appear to be borne out by the body and equipment specifications for 1937 - U.S.A. passenger cars - Automotive Industries January 9th. These statistics show that the only car now wired for radio in America is the Buick, and in this case the running board is utilised for the aerial.
