CENTRAL LUBRICATION.

We find that no scheme has yet been got out for air reservoirs on the front axle of the 20 HP., or on the rear axles of both cars.

We are still trying out schemes for the rear axle ourselves and herewith submit the one which we think will prove the neatest and most reliable. The drip plugs being bored by a .105 hole through the solid end allow access of oil to the reservoir, which is screwed on in place of the customary cap on the studs of the drip plugs which feed the brake toggle and countershafts in the case of the 20 HP., and the brake toggle shafts only on the S.S.

We would have liked to split up the reservoirs into 4 on the S.S. (as on the 20 HP.) for neatness sake, but find that the drip plugs feeding the countershafts are not adaptable on the present layout, being quite inaccessible. We see no detriment in this apart from the look of the thing. There should still be ample clearance between the large toggle shaft reservoir and the angular gusset plate on the frame, when the axle is bumped solid to the chassis. These reservoirs are designed to allow axle lubrication every 500 miles, and will meter enough oil even if the gun is removed immediately. If you are not designing reservoirs in the pivots of the 20 HP. we would like you to say whether you think a similar scheme to the above should be applied to the 20 HP. front axle, and to comment generally on the feasibility of such reservoirs on the rear axle.
