Re HYDRAULIC SPRING TESTER.

With reference to the hydraulic presses for spring testing, I think the one returned herewith, which is Avery T 4780 is the best one I have yet seen.

It is the one in which the steel yard could be used to confirm the pressure guage reading.

Supposing we could in any way have this in connection with the hydraulic accumulator we propose putting in for the electro motor work, we could use the town mains (Derby W.W.) for the preliminary pressure, and a gauge for the pre-liminary reading.

You could also use markings on the slide which is already arranged for, but one small point irritates me immensely, and that is the position of action of the balance weights.

I am of the decided opinion that the balance weights should be arranged central or nearly central with the ram.

Personally I should not mind if the chains or wire ropes went up to the ceiling and passed over large wheels. The guiding surfaces would then not look so bad, although in the top position they are near together. I propose if we cannot find anything better than this, you order this at least to be going on with, subject to Mr. Wormald's
