Tyre Noises - 25/30 h.p.Chassis.

I tried GUL-1 - one of our London Trials Cars - yesterday after it had returned from the Works in connection with modifications to the exhaust, etc. I noticed a great deal of tyre noise in this car, which rather points to the fact that we are not yet getting the degree of silence out of tyres that we should like.

As you know, in the past Dunlops have been very ready to co-operate on this question, and it seems therefore that we ought to try and get a further offer from them to produce a tyre with a reasonably silent tread and good holding qualities.

I imagine that the tyres we are at present getting become noisier after they have worn to some extent because those on the car in question have not done a very big mileage yet.

I believe that Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} took a considerable amount of trouble in connection with some silent tyres for the P.III following upon tyres of similar pattern tread for the 25/30. I hope, therefore, that with Dunlop's assistance we can still further improve this feature.

The silence of GUL-1 in London at speeds between 10-30 was very largely spoiled by the noise from the tyres, and the growl from them was most noticeable.
